I TURN MY WORDS FROM I CAN’T TO I CAN

Fast forward to 2018. I have a healthy relationship with food and training. I stay fabulous by making a commitment to myself. My willpower gives me the hope to adapt, learn and reimagine my life, turning my words from ‘can’t’ into ‘can’.

just because I don’t look like the instagram models does not make me less beautiful

Throughout a large part of my fitness journey, I’ve always been led to believe that the number on that scale is the only thing that matters. And that the lower that number is the healthier you are. However, over the last few years I’ve come to learn that there is so much more to being healthy than just that.

My fitness journey has now come to be about my mental and physical strength, feeling good about myself, having a healthy and active lifestyle and trying to push my body to limits I thought I could never reach.

If I could go back and tell my 16 year old self one thing it would be to be happy with yourself and stop comparing yourself to others.

Just because I don’t look like the Instagram models or those celebrities in the magazine it definitely does not make me less beautiful. All woman are beautiful in their own way and I hope that all young girls growing up realise that.

Lina

i made more progress in my first 6 months at OPEX than in the last 3 years at CrossFit

Here’s what I’ve achieved by training with Opex Western Sydney in just under 6 months:

Back squat: PB (Personal Best)
Front squat: PB
Push Press: PB
Deadlift: PB
Weighted Pull Up: PB

Put on 6kg (84kg to 90kg), mostly muscle, in 3 months while OPEX planned my training and monitored my nutrition.

I used to love CrossFit for the group class vibe and the fun of going all out on workouts, but with everyone doing the same thing, it wasn’t conducive to getting the results I wanted and the personal goals I had. I wanted to get stronger, bigger and build a powerful foundation for endurance without looking like an endurance athlete.

Boris

it’s about blocking out negativity and feeling empowered

My health and fitness is about doing everything I can, in and out of the gym, to ensure I am living as the best version of myself as possible. It’s about getting out of my comfort zone and blocking out negativity and to continue feeling empowered.

For a long time, I saw health and fitness as being strictly physical. I know now it’s so much more than that. For me it’s about reducing stress where possible. Making sleep a priority. Being more conscious of what I eat and doing more of what I love doing. I am getting the strength to remove myself from anything that doesn’t make me happy.

I always thought there should be a gym like OPEX, never did I think it would be mine

I started with OPEX Western Sydney after a long break with a shoulder injury. Frustrated with not being able to work out and recently relocating back to where I grew up, I found OPEX and thought I would give them a go as I’ve been to many gyms where the dynamic wasn’t suitable for me. Coach Trevor has tailored every workout around my injury, even giving me tasks within a workout to improve and speed up my recovery.

I always thought that there should be a gym like OPEX.. Never did I think it would be mine!
